Terri D. Sanders

Publisher and CEO, Omaha Star Institute

Five years ago, Terri D. Sanders became the interim publisher of the Omaha Star.  At that time the paper was 8 pages, the business connection had 16 businesses represented, the paper was a combination of black and white with color pages mixed in, it was a broad sheet format paper and published biweekly (every other week).

The Omaha Star has more than doubled its subscriber base.  The format of the paper is tabloid style with full color pages.  The size of the paper has increased to sixteen pages and will soon be publishing a four-page specialty section (stay tuned).  Business Connections have more than doubled to over 40 businesses since Terri became publisher and she is looking forward to adding to that number, which will increase the economics for those businesses.

A word search/crossword puzzle has been added as a weekly feature to the Omaha Star pages. The Star is stimulating the brains of its readers.

The Omaha Star has a social media presence and that too will be increasing.  it remains current with technology.  In July 1938 the Omaha Star was $.10/paper and was delivered by newsboys.  87 years later it is still reporting the good news and has not stopped.

The biggest move forward will be completed this summer at the opening of the Omaha Star Institute Museum dedicated to EXCELLENCE IN BLACK MEDIA and establishing the Omaha Star Park’s WALK OF FAME.  Mildred D. Brown began a movement 87 years ago and we are moving into the future with an unstoppable legacy…
